After voting, Kuwait’s opposition maintains a majority in parliament.
KUWAIT CITY: According to results released on Friday, opposition legislators continued to hold a majority in Kuwait’s parliament.
According to statistics obtained by the KUNA news agency, opposition candidates secured 29 seats in the assembly’s 50 members, which is identical to the results of the previous election.
With the exception of eleven lawmakers, the composition of the incoming parliament is relatively identical to that of the outgoing one.
Following polling places’ closure at midnight, the information ministry said that roughly 62% of voters participated.Previously the oldest crown prince in the world, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah assumed the throne in December at the age of 83 following the passing of his half-brother and predecessor, Sheikh Nawaf.
The election on Thursday, the fourth in five years and the third since 2022, was unique in that Sheikh Mishal’s selection of the crown prince, who would eventually become Kuwait’s emir, must be approved by the new parliament.
