Iraqi Parliament urges government to remove foreign forces from Iraq
Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, the speaker of the Iraqi parliament, criticized the US attacks on the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and its leaders in particular as well as the ongoing attacks on Iraq.
According to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Al-Mandalawi stated on Saturday that the government must follow the 2020 parliamentary vote requiring the withdrawal of foreign forces from Iraq.
The Speaker of Parliament emphasized that there are no new agreements requiring foreign forces to remain in Iraq and that Iraqi security capabilities have improved.
The request was sent to the parliamentary committees on security and law, and it was signed by over 100 Iraqi lawmakers. One of its recommendations is to withdraw foreign troops from Iraq.
The speaker of the Iraqi parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, denounced both the current US attacks on Iraq and the attacks directed specifically at the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and its leaders.
Al-Mandalawi said on Saturday that the government has to abide by the 2020 parliamentary vote mandating the removal of foreign forces from Iraq, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
The Speaker of Parliament stressed that Iraq’s security capabilities have improved and that there are no new agreements mandating the presence of foreign forces in the country.
The request, which was signed by more than 100 Iraqi lawmakers, was forwarded to the parliamentary committees on law and security. The removal of foreign troops from Iraq is one of its recommendations.
