Kuwait Emir issues decree to dissolve parliament
The National Assembly was dissolved on Thursday by an Emiri decree issued by Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Meshal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, according to Kuwait’s news agency KUNA.
The decree pointed out that the parliament had violated fundamental constitutional principles, especially with regard to the members’ intentional use of derogatory and offensive language as well as their disdain for people in positions of authority.
After failing to proceed, the parliament has been dissolved several times; in 2023, the Kuwaiti Constitutional Court overturned a 2022 decree that had previously been annulled. Last year, the disbanded parliament held fresh elections.
