Parliament Secretariat prepares to hold pre-budget discussion from February 29
Beginning on February 29, the Parliament Secretariat will convene meetings in the House of Representatives (HoR) and the National Assembly to discuss the tenets and priorities of the upcoming budget, also known as the pre-budget.
Pre-budget talks are expected to take place over the course of six to ten days.
The National Assembly has devised a timeline to enable the pre-budget discussion to be finished by March 13 in six working days. The HoR intends to hold talks for ten days, according to sources.
Speaker Devraj Ghimire met with the chief whips of the major parties on Friday to discuss the agenda that the Parliament Secretariat had prepared. The chief whips stated that it would not always be possible to stick to the schedule.
“After discussing the agenda with the Speaker, we have reached a decision to further discuss and seek approval from the Business Advisory Committee meeting,” stated Maoist Center chief whip Hitraj Pandey.
Pre-budget talks will now be held during the winter session for the first time. Issues brought up during the talks must be sent to the government by March 28 according to a recent government ordinance.
